RON McINTOSH
// drums
Born and bred in Aberdeen, Ron McIntosh was delighted to receive a part drum kit for his 10th birthday, although rumour has it that this was more to save his mother’s saucepans from further damage! Whatever the case, from that moment on Ron’s musical future was virtually set in stone and within a couple of years, after gathering together more or less a full drum kit, he was to be found with like-minded school-friends learning to play the pop songs of the day. Five years later and by now an extremely competent drummer for his age, he had progressed more into rock music and gained tremendous experience from playing pubs, clubs and many events up and down the East coast of Scotland.
After finishing his education and with the music ‘bit’ now firmly between his teeth, he decided to trade the Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen for the Bright Lights of London and seek his fame and fortune. He soon met up with other musicians and began playing many London venues but most importantly, he spent time learning to read drum music. This opened new doors for Ron and took him to a different level of musicianship where he came into contact with a variety of other top quality musicians. Before long they were forming small dance orchestras and gaining contracts with cruise liners as house-bands and for the backing of cabaret artists.
By his early 30’s, Ron had seen a great deal of the world, albeit from the deck of a ship. Since then he has worked all over the UK with many bands and shows, playing just about every conceivable style of music you can imagine... and now, for relaxation in between performances, he plays with not one, but two 18+ piece Swing Bands, just as a hobby! No wonder Billy Meets Cliff is thrilled to have Ron’s expertise, drive and enthusiasm behind the show.
